Kinetic Scrollable Orange TORNADO home screen on Nokia 5800 XpressMusic

This post will amazed you for sure. Here is kinetic scrollable landscape Orange Tornado home screen on Nokia 5800 XpressMusic. As we all are aware of the fact that home screen on Nokia 5800 XpressMusic does not rotate when switch to landscape mode. It remains unchanged. Here is a video to demonstrate the landscape original home screen with apps in Nokia 5800 XpressMusic.



If you have seen the home screen of Samsung mobiles like Samsung Corby, you must have noticed the kinetic scrollable sidebar on the home screen from where you access the applications. Now with this hack, you can make the Nokia 5800 XpressMusic to behave the same. Please see the following image posted on dailymobile forum by a user who successfully applied this hack on his Nokia 5800.

You will be wondering how to achieve the same on your mobile, So here are the details. Before that you need to know the prerequisites.
  • You need a hacked phone.
  • You need X-PLORE/Y-BROWSER applications to copy files to C: drive.
Once you fulfill the conditions mentioned, you can proceed further to apply this hack on your Nokia 5800. Here are the steps to follow.
  • Backup is must, so make sure you first make a backup copy of your c:\sys\install\sisregistry\1028315f folder.
  • Download Orange TORNADO home screen.
  • Extract the zip file you just downloaded.
  • Copy resource and sys folder to your C: drive.
  • Go to Home screen settings and you will get that Orange Home Screen.
  • You can download the Orange Theme and Wallpapers from here.
  • Now to get Orange theme, go to THEME and get that.
  • If you want your home screen to have landscape enabled, download 200159ed.txt file. Copy this 200159ed.txt file to c:\private\10202be9\ folder in your mobile.
  • And the last thing to do is- Just restart your mobile and you will be able to see every app right on your home screen in both portrait as well as landscape mdoe.

Nokia 5800 XpressMusic provides us the functionality of adding feeds of any blog or website in it to keep you updated about the changes in your favourite blog or website. Here is a post describing the steps to add a new feed to your Nokia 5800 mobile.

Go to Internet-->Web-->Go to-->Web feeds as shown in the following images.

Click on Options-->Web feed options-->New feed as shown in the following images.

Fill the Title and Address and then click on Options-->Save as shown in the following images.

Now your newly created feed will be shown in Web feeds. click on it. It will prompt to connect to internet. Once connected from the internet, it will refresh the feed as shown in the following images.

Now you can see all the latest contents from the newly created feed. Go Back and it will show you number of posts and the time and date of that newly created feed as shown in the following images.

Here is a small image based post to explain the way of assigning ringtone to any contact in your Nokia 5800 XpressMusic. I have seen in Google, people asking this question that how to assign a ringtone to a contact. This post will help them or any new Nokia 5800 XpressMusic owner to understand the way to do that.

Here I am explaining two ways to assign ringtone to a contact.

First using Music Library

Step 1: Go to Music Library-->All Songs either through Menu or from the HomeScreen as shown in the following images.

Step 2: Select any song and click on Options-->Use tone-->Assign to contact. See the following image for help.

Step 3: Select the contact you want to assign this ringtone and press Ok. It will display a message that "Details Added". If ringtone is already added for the selected contact. It will prompt to replace the exisiting tone as shown in the following images.

This was one of the way of assigning a ringtone to a contact. Continue for second way.

Second using Contacts

Step 1: Go to Menu-->Contacts as shown in the following image.

Step 2: Click on Options-->Open and a screen will appear as shown in the following image. If ringtone is already assigned to this contact. It will be shown there else not.

Step 3: Now click on Options-->Ringing Tone. A 'Select tone:' screen will appear to select a perticular tone for that contact. Select the tone and it will appear in that contact. See the following images for help.

On the other day, I was searching something on Google and found someone asking on Yahoo! Answer that I have copied the theme installation file on my Nokia 5800 and now how to install and set this theme. There are many Nokia 5800 owners who want to know this process. For them, I am writing a detail post where I will explain the process of installing a new theme and then setting it on your Nokia 5800 device.

Step 1: Transfer theme installation file( .sis or .sisx ) from your pc to your Nokia 5800 XpressMusic. Follow any way (Bluetooth, cable) to transfer it. In this post, I am using Bluetooth to transfer file from PC to mobile.

Step 2: Now select this file and open it. It will ask to install this file to your device as shown in the following image. Install this file in either phone memory or memory card.

Step 3: After successfull installation, Go to Settings-->Personal as shown in the following image.

Step 4: Click on Themes-->General as shown in following images.

Step 5: Now you will see a list of all installed themes and existing theme with check sign. Look for the name of new theme installed using the process descibed above. See the following image for reference.

Step 6: Click on the newly installed theme and it will be applied to your device as shown in the following image.

Most of the Nokia 5800 XpressMusic owners are not aware of theme effect provided by Nokia. They just run the default settings and they never know that there is theme effect which makes your Nokia 5800 mobile really cool. Here we will know the steps- How to on the theme effect.

Step 1: Go to "Settings" and click on "Personal" as shown in the following image.

Step 3: Click on "General" as shown in the following image.

Step 4: Select any theme and click on "Options" and then select "Theme Effects". Under default settings, it's "off". Make it "on" as shown in the following image.

After all these steps, you will see the effects on your Nokia 5800 mobile very similar to iPhone or Samsung touch screen mobiles. I have recorded a small video to show the effects. Video quality is not very good but you can feel those effects.

In this post, I will explain the steps to remove/uninstall an application from your Nokia 5800 XpressMusic.

Step 1: Go to "Settings" and click on "Application Mgr." as shown in following image.

Step 3: Select the application you want to remove/uninstall as shown in following image.

Step 5: Upon clicking "uninstall", it will ask for your confirmation as shown in following image.

Step 6: Just select "Yes" and application will be removed from your mobile.

  • *#7370# Soft reset your mobile with default password 12345

  • *#2820# BlueTooth device address

  • *#7380# Factory settings restore with default passwos 12345

  • *#92702689# Go to Nokia's Life Timer.

  • *#62209526# Mac address of Wi-Fi

  • Turn off your mobile. Hold Red, Green and Camera button together and turn on the mobile to hard reset your mobile.

Nokia 5800 XpressMusic device comes with an in-built IM application. In this post, i will explain the steps to configure this application to work with Yahoo! Messenger.

Step 1: Go to IM application and follow the instructions given in the following images.

Step 2: Click on servers and define a new server as shown in the following images. Write imps.msg.yahoo.com in Server Name as well as in Web Address.

Step 3: Define Access Point. Select from available access points as shown in following images.


Step 4: Fill your Yahoo! username and password as shown in the following image.

Now you are ready with Yahoo! Messenger on your Nokia 5800 XpressMusic. You will see all your friends and you can send messages to them.

Limitations and Problems:
  • Only up to 30 friends are displayed. Can't add more than 30 contacts.
  • I was not able to send message from my PC messanger to mobile IM client. But i was able to receive messages from mobile IM client. I feel it's one way from mobile to PC, not the other way.
